INEC Postpones All Bye-Elections


The Impartial Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) has postponed the 15 bye-elections in 11 states throughout the nation.

INEC spokesman, Festus Okoye made the announcement mentioned the 15 bye-elections was postponed because of the present disaster within the nation.

The elections for six senatorial districts and 9 state constituencies are rescheduled to happen on October 31.

The INEC commissioner disclosed that the choice was taken after a gathering with all of the resident electoral commissioners (RECs).

“This resolution is in compliance with Part 26 (2) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), which provides the Fee the ability to postpone an election if there’s motive to imagine {that a} critical breach of the peace is more likely to happen if the election is proceeded with on that date, or that it’s unattainable to conduct the elections because of pure disasters or different emergencies.
