Panic As Earthquake Of three.Three Magnitude Hits Southern England

A 3.3-magnitude earthquake was felt in components of southern England this morning, with witnesses describing homes shaking as if there had been “an explosion”.

In accordance with the British Geological Survey (BGS) quake maps, the epicentre was in 3km northwest of Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, and recorded at a depth of 10km. The tremor triggered homes to shake as distant as London, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, and Excessive Wycombe.

Residents reported feeling the tremors at 9.45am in components of London.

One individual on the EMSC web site wrote: “It felt horrible. The entire home was shaking as if one thing enormous and really heavy hit the roof or my neighbours home (they’re finish of terrace). I by no means suspected we would have it in right here.”

One other individual wrote: “I felt it very clearly. The primary wave shook the home a bit after which some little vibrations throughout 5 seconds.. however my spouse, at residence with me, didn’t really feel something.. Good expertise!”

The British Geological Survey confirmed it’s investigating studies of an earthquake which they described as a ‘massive explosion’.

Its tweet stated: “Experiences embody ‘like a convey of HGVs driving previous my entrance door at nice pace’, ‘the home had one dramatic shake’, ‘felt like complete home was shaking’ & ‘it was like a big explosion’.”

The scale of the tremor was initially considered bigger however has since been downgraded to three.Three magnitude from preliminary studies it was a 3.9.
